Today was a busy day but it was all good!

1. Had lunch with two friends I had not seen for a long time. It was like we just picked up from our last visit. Hooray for 2 1/2 hour lunches.

2. Found a great book on writing to share with my writer’s group next week. And, hoping it will help me keep ‘butt in chair’ for next 22 days.

3. My DH reset my watch for DST – I could not figure it out and have been watch-less all week.

November 6 & 7, 2014

Well, it happened. Yesterday I did not find a spare minute to even think about making my gratitude list. It wasn’t a bad day but I was totally wiped out after a long day. Anyway, I will double up for yesterday and today. It makes sense since many of my blessings came in two parts!

1. I am thankful for the recommendation by a friend for the devotional I have been reading for the past month. God Calling. The short lessons for the past two days have encouraged me to lean deeper on the Lord and be assured of His power.

2. While the weather has been cooler, I found some interesting routines to do indoors, just to let my knees rest rom running. They have been fun and some of my fellow runners are joining me.

3, I’m very thankful for new business this week. It seems if I am already busy, more work comes. If I’m totally free, no action. I think I heard something about synergy – is that what is happening?

4, Even though I could not watch my Browns play last night, one of my brothers texted me to update me on the score. And, it was a big win for my team!

5. I’m thankful for helpful friends who have better computer skills than me.

6. Lastly, despite the changing temps, the sky was the most beautiful blue I have seen since summer. It did not look like autumn at all.

November 5, 2014

Good evening. Today was a good day in that we got lots done. I love checking things off my list. Yeah, I get a bit compulsive sometimes,

1. I am thankful that we were able to take care of some bills today.

2. I made lunch plans with two friends for tis weekend – haven’t seen them since spring.

3. Thankful for the calmness at work and at home. Need the peace after a busy, stressful few days.

November 4, 2014

Today’s list is simple and quick:

1. I’m thankful that election day is almost over – the ads were very irritating

2, I’m very thankful that I got to play with my wonderful granddaughter this evening while her dad played soccer, two of my favorite things

3. My devotional reading this morning reminded me that the LORD is just a prayer away, I’m thankful for my salvation and the ability to call out to my Savior when the going gets rough.

November 3, 2014

Today started gently and slowly. I was able to sleep in and did not have to be anywhere early this morning. That was a glorious gift. My plan is to spend much of today writing and doing some chores. My list for today is short, but sweet:

1. I thank GOD for caring for me as only He can. I know I cannot do anything without Him.

2. I am thankful for friends that are encouraging, even if they don’t understand what I’m doing.

3. I am immensely thankful that my husband doesn’t get upset with my writing habits, especially during November, and is content just to sit in the same room with me while I type and yell at my computer.

November 2, 2014

Today is Sunday. This means that I spent the morning at church, serving in children’s ministry and am now suffering through another Browns’ game that they should be winning outright. Anyway, there are many more good things for me to focus on.

1. After weeks of searching, I finally found some important papers. Thank you GOD!

2. I am able to share my love of football with my brothers. Amazingly, even though we follow different teams, we are all frustrated today. Well, they say misery loves company. It’s nice knowing that it’s not just my team.

3. Planned meals for weekend so I have time to write. So far, so good and less stress. Maybe there is something to this planning bit…I should do that more often.

4. Contact with good friend from church who moved to Texas – so glad they are getting settled and doing well.

5. Slept very well last night, enjoyed my extra hour of rest.

November 1, 2014

Well, here it is, the first day of November. I am starting my challenge to myself to post daily for the month, create a Gratitude list, and practice giving thanks throughout the entire month. So, here goes…
1. I am thankful for the crunchy leaves underfoot when I ran today. The colors may be almost done, but the view in the park is still beautiful. I love the fact that I live in an area where we get to experience four seasons.
2. So excited to be working on part two of my young adult novel series. This year I was able to replace my old laptop so I know this will make writing easier. Stay tuned…
3. I’m thankful for friends and colleagues I get to work and play with, at the office and at church.
So, it’s not too late for you to join me on this quest. How about it?

November is almost here!

I look forward to November every year. This is the month that I take a little break from running. Even though running is my favorite form of exercise, I know I need to switch things up a bit. So, I check out a few Zumba classes, dust off my yoga mat, and take more walks. Also, November is National Novel Writing month (NaNoWriMo for short) and I love diving deep into the young adult novels I am writing. This year, I am giving myself an additional challenge. Since I have not been keeping up with my blog, I will post every day in November, using this forum to record a Gratitude journal. Please join me – I would love to see what joys light up your lives.

Tired of winter….

For practically everyone living in the eastern half of the nation, we are tired of the snow and ice! This winter has been so strange, with the back-to-back storms, below zero temps, and the ice! Ice is everywhere and just won’t melt! This has put a major dent in my planned running mileage. I have run outdoors twice this year, for a total of 6 miles! While I don’t love the treadmill, I have dragged myself to the gym several times this month, but it is just not the same. I long to feel the wind in my face and wear my cool running sunglasses ! 🙂

I am a runner who needs to be outside. Since I use the Galloway method (Run-Walk-Run), it is much more pleasant to do R/W/R outside but I have been trying to play with my intervals on the treadmill. I picked up Jeff Galloway’s newest book from the library last week and decided to adjust my interval time from 3 minutes run/ 1 minute walk to 2/1. The change is supposed to help me improve my cadence and speed, along with minimizing injuries. I’ve been having some problems with my left knee, likely arthritis (I am in my late 50s), so I’m willing to try this to keep on running. I was surprised when I ran on the treadmill and actually covered more distance than expected.

Anyway, I am trying to include new ideas for cross training. The H24 Fit Club we have has been great fun and really works my other muscle groups. Just trying to stay busy til the ice melts….c’mon spring!

Needed a break

The Nationwide Columbus Marathon was held this past Sunday. It was a beautiful day – cool, sunny, and dry. The colors of the trees made you appreciate being in the Midwest afterall. And, I was not running it for the first time in six years.

I knew months ago that I would not be registering for this race. Actually, I had planned to do a different race that fell on the same weekend but life does get in the way. So much for the ‘best laid plans’ philosophy. Anyway, I made a big sign and my husband and I cheered on the runners and walkers from the 10 mile mark. It was great to see our running mates – they looked happy, strong, and confident! I was very glad that we could provide some sideline cheer for them but it felt definitely strange not being on the road with them.

A few weeks ago, my schedule became so complicated that I was having trouble just fitting in a couple of short runs during the week. Last week was no better and I ended up not running at all. I hated marking a big zero in my journal for the mileage that week and seeing that my plans for a staged marathon would not happen. I am sure that my husband could read the disappointment on my face. Later on Sunday, I decided to take a yoga class to just relax. While there, it occurred to me that I was just burned out, trying to juggle so many things. Despite how much I love to run, I believe that I do need to take a break from it occasionally. So that is how I am choosing to regard last week.

It’s hard not getting in a fall race because I do love getting my medals but being part of the running community does offer so much more. That is what I got to experience by supporting my friends on Sunday. And, their smiles kept me through my 3 miler early this morning!
